Uganda Martyrs Day is an annual national holiday celebrated on June 3rd that honors the heroic faith of 45 young Christian converts who were executed on the orders of Kabaka (King) Mwanga II of Buganda between 1885 and 1887. The martyrs, consisting of 22 Roman Catholics and 23 Anglicans, refused to renounce their Christian faith despite facing execution by burning, dismemberment, and spearings.
Today, this day serves as a massive symbol of religious unity, resilience, and cultural pride, drawing over three million pilgrims from across the globe to the Namugongo Shrines.
